A World Away: Isla Fisher on travel indulgences and LA’s best hotel
The actress and children’s author shares her travel highlights and essentials

Your favourite place in the world?
I love California, where I’ve been living for more than 17 years, for the sunshine. I also love driving through the redwood forests of Northern California.

Favourite hotel?
The Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. It’s so steeped in Hollywood history.

The best view?
The most spectacular ones of Los Angeles are from Yamashiro, a wonderful restaurant that’s a replica of a Japanese palace.

Favourite shop?
Abbot Kinney Boulevard, in Venice in LA, has amazing boutiques like Made In Earth, which sells beautiful handmade jewellery. Also in LA, Switch is a really cool clothes shop in Beverly Glen.

Favourite restaurant?
Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica: their handmade pastas are amazing. I also love an Israeli barbecue place called Itzik Hagadol Grill, in Encino.

Favourite indulgence?
The coffee at Alfred’s on Melrose Place: their Stumptown blends are delicious.

Most fun you’ve had travelling?
My family took a camper-van journey through New Zealand last year, driving up the coast from Queenstown – one of my best holidays ever.

Your most luxurious holiday?
A yacht trip in the French Riviera, while being wined and dined by a personal chef. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Most relaxing place?
In LA, I wind down at the spa at Montage Beverly Hills hotel. Further afield, you can’t beat the coasts of Western Australia, such as Monkey Mia, where you can swim with dolphins.

Most treasured items from your travels?
A wooden carved statue from Cape Town, which sits in my husband’s [the actor Sacha Baron Cohen] office, and some shells I found on a beach in New Zealand.

Favourite travel accessories?
I love fluffy slippers from Ugg – it’s like walking on clouds – Aesop’s geranium-leaf moisturisers, and suitcases from Longchamp.
